This is not a standard security guard position. This is a mid-senior role for professionals who operate in high-pressure, high-profile environments.
As an Armed Close Protection Officer, often called a CPO or bodyguard, your job is to ensure the safety, security, and peace of mind of your principal and their family. You will work in public and private spaces, on the road, at venues, and in homes. The goal is simple: prevent incidents before they happen, and respond decisively if they do.
You will be the last line of defense and the first line of planning. Your day-to-day will include:
- Close Personal Protection
Maintain a professional, often discreet presence around the principal. Be visible enough to deter, invisible enough to not intrude. Your presence alone should make people think twice.
- Armed Defense & Firearms Management
Carry, maintain, and be fully competent with authorized firearms including handguns. Use force only as a last resort and always within the law and company policy.
- Risk, Threat & Advance Planning
Conduct security surveys and threat assessments on routines, routes, and locations. Before the principal arrives at a hotel, restaurant, or event, you will have already checked entry/exit points, emergency exits, and potential risks.
- Secure Transportation
Act as a security chauffeur. Use defensive and evasive driving techniques. Plan safe routes. Be prepared to extract the client from a situation quickly and calmly.
- Surveillance & Counter-Surveillance
Keep 360-degree situational awareness at all times. Monitor crowds, vehicles, and behavior. Identify if someone is watching your principal before they get close.
- Access Control & Environment Security
Vet visitors. Control access to homes and offices. Sweep and secure areas before use.
- Emergency Response
React immediately and professionally to medical emergencies, security breaches, or physical threats. Provide First Aid/CPR when needed until medical services arrive.
We need people who are calm under pressure and professional at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid PSIRA registration with current PSIRA certificate
Valid armed security license / firearm competency for business purposes
Valid SA Driver’s License with a clean driving record
Grade 12 or equivalent
Experience:
Mid-Senior level. Prior experience in SAPS, SANDF, or specialized private security/close protection is required.
Skills & Attributes:
High level of physical fitness, strength and endurance for 12–16 hour shifts
Technical proficiency with radios, GPS, CCTV, metal detectors
Defensive/Advanced driving certification like RoSPA or IAM will be an advantage
Exceptional attention to detail and situational awareness
Calmness under pressure and ability to make split-second decisions
High level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
