Job Overview

The Engineering Foreman (Mechanical) is responsible for planning, organising, leading and controlling all activities in the Diesel Workshop at JCI Mining’s Makhado site. The role ensures compliance with legislation, industry codes of practice and company standards to deliver safe, cost‑effective engineering services.


Reporting Structure

- Reports to: The Plant Manager.

Key Objectives

- Manage the Diesel Workshop operations efficiently.

- Maintain adherence to all legal, safety and environmental requirements.

- Optimise equipment availability and reduce maintenance costs.


Minimum Qualifications & Experience

1. Education: Grade 12 (or equivalent) and N3 Engineering (or equivalent).

2. Certifications: Valid Trade Certificate in Diesel Mechanics.

3. Skills: Computer literacy; MS Office proficiency.

4. Licenses: Driver’s licence (Code EB / 08).

5. Experience: Minimum 5 years as a Diesel Mechanic or Diesel Foreman in mining or a related industry.

6. Advantageous: Experience with CAT/Komatsu/Hitachi/Volvo equipment and Cummins engines.

Core Responsibilities

- Supervise and manage maintenance, breakdowns and repairs of machinery & equipment.

- Ensure engineering targets are met safely and cost‑effectively.

- Enforce Health, Environmental and Safety (HES) regulations at all times.

- Maintain high housekeeping standards in the workshop.

- Plan and organise workshop resources to maximise productivity.

- Conduct performance assessments and training of workshop staff.

- Prepare accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
